Holtkamp Sponsors Cooking Show and Collects 1 Ton of Food

For several years, Holtkamp HVAC has sponsored the Taste of Home Cooking School at Gwinnett Center. With hundreds of local residents coming together to celebrate cooking techniques and new recipes, its the perfect event to raise awareness about the serious issue of hunger in our community. We created the Gwinnett Can Challenge as a way to highlight that local food banks and the families they feed need our help 365 days a year. Our Can Challenge team recently attended this year’s show armed with smiling faces and ready to start accepting donations as soon as the doors opened! Chopper, the mascot of the Gwinnett Braves, stopped by to show his support! He knows this cause is truly a home run. Throughout the evening, Suzanne Holtkamp had a chance to talk to the attendees and encourage them to purchase raffle tickets for $1 each that would go directly to support local food banks. For every ticket they purchased or food item they donated, they would receive an entry for an iPad! Pastor Bill from the Bread of Life Food Pantry was so impressed with the bountiful contributions that he just had to pose for a picture. Congratulations to Cindy Jones, winner […]

Holtkamp HVAC Collects Half Ton of Food for Local Food Banks

As proud supporters of the arts and local food banks, Holtkamp HVAC recently hosted home school students from around the area to a free show at Aurora Theatre. We asked them to bring food for local food banks as part of their free admission. The show was Peter Pan & Wendy, and who knew that Tinkerbell would arrive at the show for a ride in our make believe convertible? As part of this food drive, we were thrilled to gather a half ton of food from these students and their families. Brandon collected 105 items from family and friends, and he knows his contributions to this Gwinnett Can Challenge food drive will help so many families in our area. With the combined efforts of these students, Aurora Theatre and Holtkamp HVAC, over 1000 pounds of food was delivered to the Norcross Coop. Would you like to make a difference and take the Gwinnett Can Challenge? We know you CAN do it! If you’re part of a non-profit 501(c) 3 group like boy scouts, girl scouts, churches or more, then your group could be eligible for a $250 grant if you collect enough food for local food banks. Meanwhile, Suzanne is […]

Holtkamp HVAC Sponsors Show and Encourages Local Food Bank Support

As proud supporters of the arts and the Offical HVAC company of Aurora Theatre, we were thrilled to sponsor a recent performance of their hit musical, Les Miserables. Aurora Theatre is one of the leading professional theatres in the Metro Atlanta area, and we take pride in providing HVAC services to keep all of their patrons comfortable for every performance. By sponsoring this performance, we were able to invite many customers, vendors, friends and family to see what is otherwise a sold-out production. We even gave away tickets to some of our Facebook fans. (Want to be a fan and get HVAC tips and great giveaways like theatre tickets? Click here!) Prior to the show, the lobby was buzzing with excitement and anticipation. This gave Matthew a chance to mingle with the crowd and personally thank them for attending. Many young students, including a troop of theatre students from a local high school, attended this show. Just before the show began, our family had the chance to take the stage and say a few words. Since this is a rather sad show at times, we started by tossing out small boxes of tissues for the tears that would inevitably fall! […]

Suzanne Holtkamp Wins Arts Volunteer of the Year

Suzanne Holtkamp, one of the owners of Holtkamp HVAC, proudly received the ArtWorks Gwinnett Fusion Award for Arts Volunteer of the Year. This was the 2nd Annual Fusion Awards, an event that highlights the artistic achievements of Gwinnett County by bringing together artists, arts organizations and philanthropists to celebrate the growing Gwinnett art community. Below, Suzanne and her husband Matthew enjoy a meal prior to the awards presentation. The event took place at the majestic new Buford Community Center and Theatre, beginning with a delicious spread of heavy appetizers in the upstairs ballroom. After these tasty treats and time spent mingling, guests gathered in the Silvia Beard Theatre for the awards ceremony. To celebrate the arts, there were several performances throughout the show by the Royal Dance Academy, Zephyr Instrumental, ADvocate Arts, Herman Pennamon and the Aurora Theatre. (Holtkamp HVAC is a proud sponsor of the Aurora Theatre) There were several recipients of award plaques (full list here), and when the category of Arts Volunteer of the Year was announced, we were thrilled to hear Suzanne’s name. She received this recognition for her efforts in organizing the “Off the Hook” rug exhibit at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center. This […]

The Best Christmas Tree Ever

Fall brings leaves.  Leaves bring colder weather.  Colder weather brings… Food trees?  Yes, it does!  It’s time again for the annual Festival of Trees at the Aurora Theatre in Historic Lawrenceville.  In case you’re not up on the Festival, let me explain.  Each year, local businesses are invited to fill the Aurora Theatre’s lobby with decorated Christmas trees to usher in the holiday season during their fabulous Christmas Canteen show – which started the weekend after Thanksgiving.  Patrons who attend the theatre are asked to bring either nonperishable food for our local Gwinnett food banks or toys for Toys for Tots.  The tree which “collects” the most food and toys underneath its branches is declared the “Best of the Fest”!  For the third straight year, all food collected during this event is part of the Gwinnett CAN Challenge sponsored by Holtkamp HVAC and will be donated to our area food banks. So here’s the crazy part.  Each year, Theresa and I have to come up with a new Christmas tree design.  You can see the previous year’s design here.  It gets harder each year to do something bigger and better!  This year, we were  inspired to construct the tree entirely […]

CAN Challenge Success at the Taste of Home Show

Nothing says fall like cool air outside, comfortable air inside and the cozy smell of home-cooked, comfort meals being made. And what better way to catch up on the latest foodie treats and help fill local food bank shelves than at the Taste of Home Cooking Show at the Gwinnett Arena. This past Thursday, the Holtkamp crew set up shop alongside the delicious vendors and cooking demonstrations to collect donations for the Lilburn Co-op, one of the nine local food banks supported through the Gwinnett CAN Challenge. Everyone who donated was also entered to win a free iPad, and with over 1,100 in attendance, our booth was humming with donations. We were pleasantly surprised when the previous year’s iPad winner came to visit our booth during the show, and especially touched when we announced this year’s winner, Angel, and she came to us in tears explaining how she brought in 67 items for the drive just because she felt called to help this year. We are so glad she was moved to help—and got an iPad to boot! Thanks to the generosity of many, we were able to collect 1,574 items and $512 in donations—which translates into a little over one ton (yes, […]

October 2012 Busy Month for Holtkamp CAN Challenge

There’s been such a nonstop calendar of activity this month with our CAN Challenge that’s it hard to know where to begin giving updates!  Thought I would spend a few minutes telling you about the Holtkamp Homeschool Day at the Aurora Theatre this past Monday, Oct. 22.  Once again, the Children’s Playhouse of the Aurora Theatre outdid themselves with their production of “Robin Hood”.  The event was sponsored by Holtkamp HVAC and tickets were free but patrons were asked to bring nonperishable food items for The Quinn House – located only blocks from the Aurora in Historic Lawrenceville.  1090 food items were collected from over 500 in attendance!  Thank you homeschoolers for helping to feed our hungry.  Here are a few highlights from the performances.

Students of Aurora's Summer Camps take on the CAN Challenge

Congratulations to the students of the Aurora’s summer acting camps beginning in June.  Each 2 week camp was given a goal of collecting 1,000 items for our local food banks.  The students and staff passed the goal and celebrated the victory with an ice cream party (hosted by Holtkamp Heating & Air) at their end-of-camp performance for family and friends.  Thanks Aurora for cheering the students on, thanks Jaclyn for being such an awesome coordinator and thanks to Theresa from Holtkamp for being a supreme party hostess.  Is your group a nonprofit?  Join the fun, help feed the hungry and earn grant money for your nonprofit.  Check out the Gwinnett CAN Challenge!

Local Food Banks Need Our Help

The summer months are days we all relish with plans for vacations, time off from school and splashy times at the pool.  However, the summer months are also the toughest time for food banks.  The demand stays the same with just as many families to feed but supply goes way down as donors shuffle off to vacation and those in greatest need no longer receive assistance in local school lunch programs. Read about our local needs here.   The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a wonderful organization and one we have always supported both professionally and personally.   Please consider donating directly to an Svdp location or another local food bank.  Accept the CAN Challenge and organize a food drive while earning grant money for your own 501(c)3.  Want to learn more?  Call the office 770.271.7511 and ask to speak to Theresa from Holtkamp Heating & Air, the coordinator of the Gwinnett CAN Challenge.

Holtkamp Home School Day Packs the House

It was a bright sunny, ridiculously WARM day in February when the Aurora Theatre and Holtkamp Heating & Air once again opened its doors to local homeschool families. Hey, if we’re not busy fixing your furnace or heatpump, then let’s have some fun! Families were asked to bring 5 food items for local food banks as part of the Gwinnett CAN Challenge sponsored by Holtkamp Heating & Air. These last two shows of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” (part of the Aurora Theatre’s Learning Library series) were sold out as audiences both young and old enjoyed the always professional and incredible productions from the Aurora Theatre. Be sure to “Like” us on Facebook and receive notification of the next Holtkamp Homeschool Day at the Aurora. Can’t wait to see you there!
