Gwinnett Food Pantries in Dire Need – Accept the CAN Challenge

I was hoping to report to you good news but unfortunately, it’s also coupled with some bad. The good news is that we have collected over 7 tons of food for local food pantries. This food has been distributed to a dozen local food pantries in Lawrenceville, Duluth, Buford, Lilburn, just to name a few. The bad news is that more is desperately needed. I just received a message from Ellen Gerstein of the Gwinnett Coalition and she is reporting that record numbers are asking for housing and food assistance. We at Holtkamp Heating & Air are once again asking nonprofit groups, citizens, anyone interested in helping fellow neighbors to collect food or sponsor a food drive. Holtkamp HVAC has lots of tips and assistance to help with organizing a food drive. And if your group is a nonprofit (scout troop, youth organization, etc.) YOUR group can earn a $250 grant from the Holtkamp Family Foundation while helping with this dire need right now. Food pantries receive a lot of assistance during the holidays but when the weather warms up, they tend to be forgotten. Please help us to help others. Accept the Holtkamp Heating & Air CAN Challenge! Gwinnett CAN Challenge Update

A big thank you to The Gwinnett Daily Post who accepted the Gwinnett CAN Challenge and provided two locations for Holtkamp Heating & Air to collect food towards our 10 ton goal. The first was the Taste of Home Cooking School at the Gwinnett Center where some 1,000 excited students had fun while learning new recipes and cooking tips.  Over 1,500 food items were donated by School attendees.  On Nov. 11, over 1,300 food items were collected at the Veteran’s Day Concert where the Army Field Corps Band and Chorus performed.  Below are a few pictures.  The Gwinnett Salvation Army and the Quinn House were the recipients of over one ton of the collected food.  Thank you J.K. and Eleanor of the Post for working with us and bringing our grand total up to 2.5 tons!

Gwinnett Accepted the CAN Challenge at Celebrate Service Festival!

Thank you Gwinnett!  It was an absolutely beautiful, sunny day and you came out in big numbers.  Over 10,000 citizens enjoyed the music, the 5K run, the soccer shootout and all the numerous other activities as they celebrated our wonderful community of service.  We collected over 1600 cans of food which is app. 1500 lbs.!  It was distributed among local food banks today including some of the area St. Vincent de Paul chapters.  Thought you’d want to see some of the festivities.  The winner of the nonprofit $500 grant was SIFE – Students in Free Enterprise who brought almost 300 items.  Stay tuned for the location of the next CAN Challenge!

Okay guys.  It’s the moment of truth.  Here I am driving the St.Vincent de Paul truck ready for all the food you’re going to bring to our booth at the Celebrate Service Festival on Sat. Oct. 2.  I know Gwinnett is going to come through and pack the truck – along with the other local food banks.  I’ll be waiting at the big balloon in the middle of Suwanee Town Park!
