Holtkamp Celebrates Partnership Between Gwinnett Tech & Local Business

Holtkamp Celebrates Partnership Between Gwinnett Tech & Local Business

We’re very proud to be connected to our community in Gwinnett in several ways, ranging from supporting the arts as sponsors of Aurora Theatre to helping fill local food banks. Another way we get involved with bettering our community is our long-term relationship with Gwinnett Tech, a leading provider of sound technical education to thousands of students from our region. Matthew is on the Board of Trustees of Gwinnett Technical college and is incredibly proud of their educational mission and their results with students. Gwinnett Tech has been providing career-focused education and training for more than 25 years with programs focused on real-world education for real-world jobs here in Gwinnett County and surrounding areas, including HVAC. Gwinnett Technical College and a diesel engine company in Norcross recently teamed up to develop a program for students to learn more about working on diesel engines. Deutz Corporation donated seven diesel engines to the program, which gives students hands-on experience with modern technology. As a board member, Matthew was proud to be a part of the ceremony honoring this local company’s donation to Gwinnett Tech’s efforts to provide technical education to students that may be interested in an industry with a shortage of well-trained technicians. How Gwinnett Businesses & Schools are Benefitting Our Kids

Suzanne is a proud board member of the Environmental & Heritage Center, a crown jewel in Gwinnett County’s long list of unique and impressive educational and enrichment facilities. To keep their quarterly meetings fresh and educate members about all Gwinnett has to offer, the organization explores different venues for each board meeting. They recently visited the phenomenal Junior Achievement Discovery Center at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, which CBS News calls a ‘game-changing’ school. The school features an entrepreneurship center with two Junior Achievement of Georgia programs, JA BizTown and JA Finance Park. Photo courtesy of Junior Achievement of Georgia Quick facts about “JA Biz Town”: 150 6-7th graders visit every day to run a business, with many getting a role as a CEO, marketing person, etc. Students learn everything from marketing and selling a product, to earning and depositing a paycheck. An 18 lesson program is taught within the grade’s classes with the culmination being a visit to the Discovery center, giving every student in the system a “real world” environment to apply their studies. Quick facts about “JA Finance Park”: Aimed at 8th graders, “JA Finance Park” has a personal finance focus, helping them learn how to balance a budget and prepare for life’s unexpected events. […]

Matthew gives Keynote Speech at Honor Society Induction

Our company has always been dedicated to connecting with our community and giving back wherever we can. From our Gwinnett CAN Challenge efforts to fill local food banks to our sponsorship of Aurora Theatre in support of the arts, we hope to have a positive impact on causes that mean a lot to us and make our community special. In recent years, Matthew had the profound honor of being invited to become a member of the Gwinnett Technical College Board of Trustees. We highlight education and certification as a key component of having a top notch HVAC team, so this membership was a natural fit for him. Matthew was recently asked to give the Keynote address for the Phi Theta Kappa honor society induction ceremony. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. They provide opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. The focus of Matthew’s address was goal setting. He explained the power behind long term goals, using flexible short term goals, and his own unorthodox “anti-goals”, things you don’t want for yourself. Matthew […]

Help Fill Local Food Banks & Win a Trip to San Diego

At Holtkamp Heating & Air, we’re passionate about supporting our community in many ways. Two of our top priorities are helping fill local food banks and celebrating the arts. We’re excited to share a new campaign that brings these two important causes together in a big way. Connecting the Arts with a Need in the Community Currently, the shelves are very bare at Gwinnett’s food pantries, according to the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services. “The need is pretty intense right now,” Suzy Bus, helpline director for the Coalition, said. Based on this pressing situation, we considered how we could connect our passions and help drive donations to keep local food banks filled year-round. As longtime sponsors of the Aurora Theatre, we have long supported their artistic efforts and kept their patrons comfortable during performances. With thousands attending their shows, we had the idea of connecting them all to the food bank cause. During the Aurora’s 20th season, we’re proud to be partnering with them to help raise 20 tons of food to help fill local food banks! How to Enter the Grand Prize Giveaway To sweeten the pot and celebrate everyone who participates in this food drive, we are offering […]

CAN Challenge: Rewarding an Elementary School's Good Deeds

Our CAN Challenge food drive intends to get local non-profits such as schools, churches and scouting/athletic groups engaged in helping to fill local food banks, which unfortunately have a critical shortage of food throughout the year. With rising numbers of families in need, this ongoing program not only raises awareness about the problem but also gives citizens a chance to make a real impact locally. Once groups organize and conduct their own food drive, they can receive up to $500 in grants, in addition to knowing they are actively helping those in need. This makes the program a win-win! One group that has proudly participated in the CAN Challenge for the past three years is the Level Creek Elementary School PTA in Suwanee. As the internal champion of the school’s CAN Challenge efforts, first grade teacher Kristin Neely has used this both as a service opportunity and educational experience for students. In their three years of participation, the students and families of Level Creek Elementary have raised a whopping 6,914 pounds of food! By gathering 3.5 tons of food that have gone directly to the North Gwinnett CoOp, the group has been awarded a total of $1,350 in grants. “We are all so happy […]

Matthew Holtkamp Joins Gwinnett Technical College Foundation’s Board of Trustees

As long-time supporters of Gwinnett Technical College we are very excited to announce Matthew Holtkamp, our president, has been named to the foundation’s board of trustees! You may not know it, but Matthew is a graduate of a technical college program where he received a degree in heating and air conditioning. When he and Suzanne moved to Gwinnett and became familiar with Gwinnett Tech and the quality programs it offers, they knew they wanted to assist a college dedicated to improving the community. “For many years we have supported Gwinnett Tech’s air conditioning technology program and its students,” Matthew said. “We view the program as a great place to train the next generation of HVAC experts and have been very pleased with the quality graduates it is producing.” In 2010, the Holtkamps established the Holtkamp Family Foundation to strengthen families by providing critical basic needs, supporting education and encouraging pro-family cultural programs. Through the foundation they also offer the Holtkamp Heating and Air Conditioning scholarship, which is given to one Gwinnett Tech HVAC student each semester. “We are very proud to welcome this fine and established leader to the board,” said Mary Beth Byerly, vice president of institutional advancement and executive director of the Gwinnett Tech Foundation. “Matthew brings his own […]

Holtkamp Food Drive Raises over 1 Ton of Food

At Holtkamp Heating & Air, we’re passionate about keeping folks comfortable in their homes. But we’re also just as passionate about helping those in need throughout our community. Our ongoing Gwinnett CAN Challenge campaign encourages individuals and non-profits to help fill local food banks, especially during January-October when food banks receive less attention. With a goal of raising 15 tons of food in 2015, we recently sponsored two performances of the 3 Little Pigs children’s educational show at Aurora Theatre. 100% of the $3.50 ticket price was collected and donated to local food banks. Additionally, attendees were encouraged to bring jars of peanut butter to help provide a protein-packed item for the food banks. For every jar they brought, they received one raffle ticket for great prizes. The Results Thanks to the hundreds of attendees that came out to the performances, we were able to raise: • $905 in cash based on ticket sales. • With that $905, 2,715 items can be purchased for local food banks. • 95 jars of peanut butter. • Between the cash and donated items, that’s over one ton of food raised in one day! Many thanks to all who attended the shows and participated in this food […]
