Suzanne Holtkamp’s Apple Bake Recipe

We survived another hot Atlanta summer and that means we get to claim our reward – crisp, juicy, delicious North Georgia apples! Don’t forget the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay. Get the full scoop on the festival here. When you come home with those scrumptious treats and have eaten some raw, caramelized others, slapped a few in pies and made a little fruit salad, then you can try the ULTIMATE apple dessert recipe! Now, remember from my egg salad recipe, that I am not one of those exact cooks. So, take this recipe with a grain of salt. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist that one!) Holtkamp House Apple Bake 2 cans refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (about 7 oz. Use bigger if you want more dough than apple.) ¾ cup sugar (We use organic or palm sugar.) 1 TB cinnamon ¼ cup butter melted in the microwave 2-3 medium apples (The tart ones are good; the stronger tasting ones are the best.) 1/3 cup chopped walnuts, pecans or nuts of choice Also needed: Round cast iron skillet, clay baker or deep dish pie plate Directions Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. The Holtkamps Help the Community Fill Local Food Banks

As proud sponsors of Aurora Theatre, we recently provided complimentary tickets to hundreds of our customers for a performance of the classic musical Mary Poppins. In addition to rewarding our customers with these free tickets, we also used this performance to highlight a critical food shortage in our community. We asked that each family bring at least one paper or plastic bag filled with food and other most needed items to the performance. We were so pleased to see an outpouring of support by the attendees, which amounted to over a half ton of food and other essential items that would go directly to local food banks. To encourage contributions, Matthew and Suzanne provided raffle tickets for every item that attendees brought. At intermission, a drawing was held for Aurora tickets and a $250 Visa gift card! We were very pleased to give back to our patrons who so generously donated food to Gwinnett food banks. For those that were able to attend this spectacular performance of Mary Poppins and make a difference in our community, our family would like to say a very special thank you. If you are interested in getting involved to help fill local food banks, learn […]

Holtkamp Famous House Egg Salad Recipe!

I love springtime in the South! Watching the trees bud, flowers bloom and my garden sprout are some of the season’s highlights. Even our chickens are glad for spring. We all enjoy hearing their contented clucks as they forage around the house, relishing the warmer days. One of the main benefits of having chickens is the fresh eggs they produce. I created this egg salad recipe and love using our home-grown eggs in it. It’s a great dish for picnics, showers, Easter, family get-togethers or any occasion, really. Try it out and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Ingredients 2 doz. Holtkamp eggs (hard boiled) ¾ cup salad dressing (or so) 2 T. Dijon mustard (or so) 2 T. chopped sweet onion (or so) 1 T. dried dill or 2 T. fresh dill ¼ c. chopped sweet gherkins ½ t. kosher or sea salt Pepper to taste Dash (or two!) of Holtkamp Heatwave Hot Sauce, or your favorite hot sauce Lettuce and tomato to garnish if preferred Directions 1) Hard boil eggs. Peel, clean, wash. 2) Separate yolks and whites. Smash yolks in bowl. Chop whites into separate bowl. 3) Combine salad dressing, mustard, […]

Holtkamp HVAC’s Smart Thermostats are a Smart Choice for Aurora Theatre

We love it when we get to help our customers become even more energy efficient! As the official HVAC company of the Aurora Theatre (and proud supporters), we recently installed 17 new programmable thermostats. In the past, the theater had a hodgepodge of programmable thermostats and none of them worked together. We noticed many areas throughout the building, which, despite only being occupied during a performance, were still being heated and cooled 24/7. We changed out every thermostat, replacing them with the Trane XL624 programmable control. Each thermostat can now be accessed online, allowing users to program the heating and air schedule, setting times and temperatures, and then download the schedule into each thermostat. The system offers the ability to register multiple cell phones, along with customized levels of authority and access. For instance, if someone wanted to control the thermostat in their office, the system administrator could grant them access to only that thermostat or allow them to control multiple thermostats. In fact, Anthony Rodriguez, producing artistic director, can access the entire system from his smart phone. We also love that the new thermostats prevent “thermostat tampering”. Every thermostat is locked: someone could touch it, try to re-set it, […]

Enjoy Better Indoor Comfort with a Whole Home Humidifier

While we’re experiencing cooler temperatures, you might be also be dealing with the symptoms of dry air throughout your home. When the air in your home becomes too dry, your home and body are robbed of  moisture, leaving you and your family with dry, itchy skin, and dry nose and throat symptoms. Dry air also pulls moisture from walls and hardwood floors which leads to damaging, unsightly cracks. While daily activities such as showering, cooking and doing laundry can generate some humidity that bring you some comfort, they don’t produce enough moisture to keep your entire home’s air from being too dry. The answer? A Whole Home Humidifier from Aprilaire. How does it work? The HVAC experts at Holtkamp Heating & Air will install an Aprilaire Whole Home Humidifier directly to your existing central heating and cooling system. Humidity is introduced into your home’s air in the form of water vapor, which prevents minerals from entering the air in your home and potentially into your lungs. Why Aprilaire instead of portable units? Too much humidity can be as much of a problem as too little humidity. Unlike portable units the Aprilaire Whole Home Humidifier continually monitors relative humidity levels in your home, […]

Holtkamp Sponsors Cooking Show and Collects 1 Ton of Food

For several years, Holtkamp HVAC has sponsored the Taste of Home Cooking School at Gwinnett Center. With hundreds of local residents coming together to celebrate cooking techniques and new recipes, its the perfect event to raise awareness about the serious issue of hunger in our community. We created the Gwinnett Can Challenge as a way to highlight that local food banks and the families they feed need our help 365 days a year. Our Can Challenge team recently attended this year’s show armed with smiling faces and ready to start accepting donations as soon as the doors opened! Chopper, the mascot of the Gwinnett Braves, stopped by to show his support! He knows this cause is truly a home run. Throughout the evening, Suzanne Holtkamp had a chance to talk to the attendees and encourage them to purchase raffle tickets for $1 each that would go directly to support local food banks. For every ticket they purchased or food item they donated, they would receive an entry for an iPad! Pastor Bill from the Bread of Life Food Pantry was so impressed with the bountiful contributions that he just had to pose for a picture. Congratulations to Cindy Jones, winner […]
