Spring Planting Tips from Holtkamp HVAC
I walked outside a few days ago and was greeted by the first peonies of the season! It was worth all the work to see how gorgeous they are. (The chickies like to hide underneath them too so beauty and function! Thought I would share a picture with you. After I was done admiring the beautiful flowers, I was itching to go play in the dirt. I figured this would be a good time to share some spring planting tips that concern your home’s energy efficiency! 1) When planting next to your outdoor unit, be sure to keep a 28″ minimum clearance. Your AC and your electricity bill will thank you! 2) Don’t plant trees, vines or bushes where leaves, branches and debris can clog your outdoor unit’s fan. An unbalanced fan not only raises a racket but is an energy hog! 3) Resist the urge to construct a pretty little “box” around your outdoor unit to hide it. You know what I am talking about – with lattice or macrame or whatever the heck the neighbor used. This cuts down on airflow and decreases your unit’s life. We always appreciate questions from customer, especially questions like these. The simple answer is “not all lifetime warranties are created equal”. That's Holtkamp with a "K". But What Does it Mean?
Here’s my trivia for the day. We’ve heard from customers who tell us about Holtkamp organs and others who have visited the Holtkamp Patisserie in Amsterdam. There’s even a Holtkamp Nursery in Tennessee that specializes in African Violets, one of which was actually sent along on a space mission. But what does the name “Holtkamp” mean in German? (I know you’ve been up nights, pondering this very question.) Well, straight from my ink-stained fingers and research-weary eyes: “Holt” means “wood” and “kamp” means “enclosure or fenced area.” So there you have it. Our name means “wooden fence.” You thought it was going to mean “air quality professional” or “the best HVAC company in Atlanta” didn’t you? Perhaps we’ll start carrying an AC with a nice wood grained exterior. Now that’s a keeper.

Metro Atlanta to Hit 90's This Week; Watch Your HVAC Thermostat
It’s forecasted to be in the mid nineties all this week here in the Metro Atlanta area. Bye bye Spring!! Just a reminder to keep your tstat temp within 16 degrees of the outside temperature to maintain optimal efficiency while keeping cool. This means if it hits 96, then your indoor temp should be 80. I know this sounds warm, but it really will feel cool when coming in from the outside. Your hvac unit will most likely run constantly to keep it at this temp and that’s normal. It has a lot of work to do! Also, keep landscaping at least 24 inches from your outdoor unit. If you’re having a problem, give us a call 770.271.7511. Holtkamp is here to help you keep your cool!

Allergy Aggravations Can Be Lessened With HVAC Duct Sealing
Well folks, the Atlanta yellow dust has arrived. You know what I mean. That nasty pollen cloud that sticks to everything like glue. Great for the flowers. Bad for those who suffer from allergies. But there’s hope. Along with your visit to your doctor, here’s something to mull over. In a perfect world, those who suffer from allergies would never be exposed to any pollen. Many think this can be accomplished by simply staying indoors. But unless you’re the boy in the bubble, this is a little unrealistic. The next line of defense seems to be duct cleaning. Problem is that duct cleaning may clean your ducts but when the AC kicks back on, the same allergens are circulated through the ductwork again. Why? The sources were never eliminated. These sources could be your attic, your crawlspace, your basement. You may very well be pulling in insulation, outside dust, pollen and mold spores from the outside without even knowing it. Superior Service in 98 Degree Weather Is Not Complicated
Brace yourself. The forecast says a high of 98 today. What do you do when it’s going to be insanely hot? Go shopping for yard items. Ha! Just got back. Not going to bore you with the inane details. Suffice to say, it wasn’t pleasant. Knew what I wanted. Just needed help in the store retrieving it from an upper shelf. No help around. Found help. Asked for help from the help. Said help walked away saying she had just walked in to her shift and didn’t know what I was talking about. Next help told me he was helping another customer. Store manager was in a meeting. Couldn’t help me either. I’m hot all over again just talking about it. Hot weather seems to make human interaction complicated. But it shouldn’t be, complicated that is. Matthew Holtkamp Gets Egged
Looky, looky who had a birthday this month – Good OLD Matthew. A mysterious chicken showed up and would have been turned away if not for the Yuengling beer which he clutched in both wings. It doesn’t take much to make Matthew happy. Just a visit from a chicken and a few beers. And maybe an air conditioner or two… Happy Birthday Old Man
